2010s:
Two exciting greenfield medical center projects have marked this current decade for PKA. The firm collaborated on the Kaiser Westside Medical Center in Hillsboro and also completed the 74-bed replacement hospital project for Trios Health in Kennewick, WA. PKA is also working on exciting projects with St. Charles Health System, Grande Ronde Hospital, Columbia Memorial Hospital, Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center, and Providence Health & Services, as well as many others. We have been extremely blessed to do the work that we have done and are very excited for the future.
2000s:
The turn of the century marked another time in our firm’s history of growth. During the first decade of the 2000s, PKA completed two of its signature projects. The tenant improvements and medical planning for OHSU’s Kohler Pavilion and the Outpatient Pavilion for AMC. By this time, PKA was working with nearly all of the healthcare providers in the region, including the VA, PeaceHealth, Good Shepherd Community Hospital, Legacy Health System, and Tuality Hospital.
1990s:
Throughout the 1990s, the firm continued to grow and expand its healthcare client base throughout Oregon and SW Washington. The office building in Wilsonville was expanded to accommodate more staff, then in 1998, the firm moved to its current location in SW Portland. This move also occurred around the same time as Pete Petersen’s retirement.
1980s:
In 1980, Pete Petersen and Steve Kolberg created Petersen Kolberg & Associates (PKA Architects). Working out of a rented home in Wilsonville for the first five years, Pete and Steve began to grow their client base in the healthcare market. Adventist Medical Center (AMC) was one of the first clients to be brought on board, and both Pete and Steve had worked with AMC previously in the late 1970s. During the decade, the firm began working relationships with Kaiser as well as Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), relationships which are still active to this day. In 1985, the firm moved to an office building in the Wilsonville area.
